FRIBUL Ltd., the company engaged in the design of the theatre’s set storage facility, has prepared a visualization project for the future transformation of the base of Nikola Vaptsarov Drama Theatre – Blagoevgrad into a multicultural centre.

The activity is part of the implementation of Project No. BG16FFPR003-1.001-0010, “Modernisation of Nikola Vaptsarov Drama Theatre for the Sustainable and Integrated Development of Culture, Cultural Tourism and the Creative Industries in Blagoevgrad”, funded under the Regional Development Programme 2021–2027, co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund.

During the initial press conference, held on 15 May, project manager Yanislava Vangelova presented the main highlights of the upcoming renovation of the theatre’s production and storage facility. Special attention was given to the transformation of the space into an innovative multicultural centre for art and culture, focused on working with school pupils and young people.

The project envisages the construction of a music studio for rehearsals and acoustic concerts, as well as the creation of a multifunctional shared space for training sessions, meetings, creative initiatives and cultural events.

The new concept aims to transform the production facility into a modern environment for the development of young talent, creative exchange and cultural education.

Among the specific objectives of the project are:

• Renovation of the cultural infrastructure through the introduction of energy efficiency measures in support of the green transition;
• Modernisation of the facilities of Nikola Vaptsarov Drama Theatre – Blagoevgrad, creating contemporary working conditions and improving comfort, accessibility and interaction with visitors and audiences;
• Creation of modern conditions for high-quality non-formal education, internships and student placements aimed at developing skills and preparing qualified professionals for the sector;
• Improvement of the socio-economic conditions for professional development in the cultural sector and creation of new jobs in the renovated buildings;
• Improving access to culture and the arts for vulnerable groups and disadvantaged people;
• Improving cooperation among all stakeholders and strengthening networking.

With the implementation of the project, Nikola Vaptsarov Drama Theatre will expand its cultural and educational activities, creating new opportunities for the active participation of young people in the cultural life of Blagoevgrad.

The new centre will encourage young people’s active participation in the cultural life of Blagoevgrad, create opportunities for developing creative skills, and support the building of a sustainable connection between the institution and young audiences. Through an integrated approach to culture and education, the project aims to strengthen the theatre’s role as a leading cultural and public institution in the region.
