On April 23, the “Nikola Vaptsarov” Drama Theatre– Blagoevgrad will present one of the biggest theatrical events of the season—the premiere of “Ladies Invite,” a production based on the iconic novel by Georgi Mishev, brought to life on stage for the first time in its history.
One of the most beloved, recognizable, and widely quoted Bulgarian stories embarks on a new and exciting stage journey. With its subtle humor, unique sensitivity, warm melancholy, and painfully precise observations on love, loneliness, and human illusions, “Ladies Invite” has long transcended the boundaries of a popular сюжет and has become a cultural symbol—a living memory of an entire era. Today, this legendary story is given new life—this time on the stage.
Among the most compelling highlights of the upcoming premiere is undoubtedly Kalin Vrachanski in the role of the instructor—a character deeply embedded in the national cultural memory with irresistible charm, magnetic presence, and one of the most iconic lines in Bulgarian cinema: “Do you know you have beautiful eyes?” Loved by the audience in Blagoevgrad and well known for his remarkable performances in *“Doubt,” “Metamorphoses,”* and *“Lend Me a Tenor,”* Kalin Vrachanski takes on a new stage challenge—to breathe new life into one of the most recognizable characters in Bulgarian cultural memory.
The stage adaptation by Vanya Shtereva and Dimitar Kalburov transforms the familiar story into a dynamic, contemporary, and emotionally rich performance, while director Asen Blatechki leads the production process with flair, a strong sense of rhythm, and a keen understanding of the actors’ craft. In addition to directing, he will also join the cast, further heightening expectations for the production.
The stage design of the production is by Nikolay Nikolov, and the costumes are by Vanina Tsandeva. The production brings together an impressive acting ensemble on one stage, uniting different generations and strong stage presences: Kalin Vrachanski, Asen Blatechki, Milena Markova–Matsa, Plamen Manasiev, Valentina Karoleva, Zhanet Keranova, Konstantina Georgieva, Lili Sucheva, Lora Hristova, Mariana Boneva, Pepa Maneva, and Ognyan Spirov.
