A whirlwind comedy of the absurd: “PSYCHO” takes over the stage of the Nikola Vaptsarov Drama Theatre – Blagoevgrad with a star-studded cast.

The Nikola Vaptsarov Drama Theatre – Blagoevgrad presents the eccentric comedy on February 13 and 26 - "PSYCHO" based on the cult play “What the Butler Saw” by British playwright Joe Orton – one of the most provocative and sharp-witted English comedies of the 20th century.

The production is directed by Nikolay Mladenov – a prominent figure in contemporary Bulgarian theatre and recipient of the national IKAR Award. Following a series of successful productions on the stage of the Aleko Konstantinov Satirical Theatre, he takes on a new challenge: an encounter with Orton’s unmistakable black humor and sharp social satire.

The set and costume design are by Nikol Trendafilova, the music is composed by Mira Iskărova, and the movement direction is by Filip Milanov.

The cast features Emil Markov, Albena Pavlova, Daniel Peev, Georgi Manev, Katya Ivanova, and Yordan Varbanov.

“PSYCHO” is a whirlwind, absurd, and mercilessly funny comedy of misunderstandings set in a psychiatric clinic. What appears to be a routine job interview spirals into an avalanche of mistaken identities, dressing and undressing, unexpected inspections, and situations teetering on the edge of scandal. In a world where “normal” is a relative concept, the line between doctor and patient begins to blur dangerously.

The play also enjoyed a successful film adaptation in the 1970s, which cemented its cult status and brought Orton’s merciless humor and sharp social provocation to an even wider audience. Although the author’s life ended tragically, his work continues to resonate on stages around the world with its boldness and uncompromising spirit.

Join us for an unforgettable theatrical experience at 13 and 26 february on the stage of the Nikola Vaptsarov Drama Theatre.
