One of the most recognizable and beloved Bulgarian stories is embarking on a new, long-awaited journey. At the Drama Theatre “Nikola Vaptsarov” – Blagoevgrad, rehearsals have begun for the production “LADIES INVITE”—staged on a theatrical stage for the first time in history, based on the iconic novel by Georgi Mishev.
A title carried in the memory of generations of audiences—with its subtle humor, warm melancholy, and poignantly precise observations on love, loneliness, and human illusions. Over the years, the story of “Ladies Invite” has become a symbol of an entire era and of one of the most iconic characters in Bulgarian cinema.
Today, the role of the charming driving instructor is inevitably associated with the legendary performance of Stefan Danailov. In the stage interpretation of “Ladies Invite,” this character will be portrayed by Kalin Vrachanski—well known and loved by audiences in Blagoevgrad for his performances in productions such as “Doubt,” “Metamorphoses,” and “A Comedy of Tenors.” With his stage charisma, charm, and strong presence, he brings the character into dialogue with today’s audience—vivid, recognizable, and emotionally resonant.
The stage adaptation is by Vanya Shtereva and Dimitar Kalburov, and the director of the production is Asen Blatechki. Blatechki leads the creative process and will also take part in the cast, promising a dynamic, emotional, and engaging comedy.
The stage design of the production is by Nikolay Nikolov, and the costumes are by Vanina Tsandeva. The production brings together an impressive acting ensemble on one stage, uniting different generations and strong stage presences: Kalin Vrachanski, Asen Blatechki, Milena Markova–Matsa, Plamen Manasiev, Valentina Karoleva, Zhanet Keranova, Konstantina Georgieva, Lili Sucheva, Lora Hristova, Mariana Boneva, Pepa Maneva, and Ognyan Spirov.
“Ladies Invite” promises to be one of the most highly anticipated and exciting productions in the theatre’s repertoire—an event that will bring audiences a deeply human, nostalgic, and profoundly relatable theatrical experience.
The premiere of the production will take place on 23 April, and tickets are already on sale. More information about the upcoming premiere and subsequent performances in other cities will be published very soon on theatre's website..
