Drama Theatre Nikola Vaptsarov – Blagoevgrad to Participate in the Drumevi Theatrical Celebrations - Festival in Shumen

We are pleased to announce that the play "The Iron Candlestick" based on the novel of the same name by Dimitar Talev, with a stage adaptation and direction by Kalin Angelov, has been selected to participate in this year's edition of the Bulgarian Drama Festival “Drumevi Theatrical Celebrations” in Shumen.

The festival, which is one of the most significant events in Bulgaria's cultural calendar, will take place from May 11 to 16, 2025, when Shumen will once again host prominent theater troupes from across the country on its stage.

This year, the selector for the "Review of Performances" section is theater scholar and dramaturg Desislava Vasileva, and the interest in the forum was impressive – nearly 40 performances based on Bulgarian texts applied for participation.

Our production offers a contemporary and emotionally impactful interpretation of the classic novel, focusing on the heavy moral dilemma of a mother forced to choose between her love for her child and the societal pressure to preserve the family’s honor. The story unfolds as a public trial on stage, where the audience becomes both a participant and a witness to the painful clash between the personal and the public, between faith, fear, and self-sacrifice.

The cast of the production includes the actors Albena Chobanova, Ivan Nikolov, Katya Ivanova, Lora Hristova, Kaloyan Karaginev, Andrash Konchalev, and Zhanet Karanova.

We thank the organizers for the recognition and the opportunity to be part of this prestigious theater forum!
